Feel free to delete this if it did. I think that the show "American Idol" could become our "idol" if we allow it to become so. But really, anything in our lives can become "idols" if we allow them to. For instance, our children can become our "idols" if we love them more than we love God. Our blogs could become "idols" if we live solely for blogging, as opposed to living out God's purpose in our lives. The question is, can we live without American Idol, or will missing it just kill us inside and cause us pain and suffering? If the answer to the latter part of that question is "yes," then we need to search out our hearts before God, because then it may have become sin for us.
