American Idol

Here is the thought lately......

How much of an idol is American Idol?

Is it really ok for any true believers in Christ to give of our time to something called and associated with pride and greed and idol worship?

Is it ok to watch and be a spectating participant or critical participant in the show and enjoy a musical/vocal performance as long as we keep it in the realm of recreational time as opposed to living our lives around the show?

Where does the ACLU and anti-religion groups stand on this since the term "idol" is extremely closely if not always associate with the term "worship" which is clearly religious terminology?

Your thoughts?

I think that "American Idol" could become another "idol" for a lot of people, if they let it become an "idol." I include myself in this, because it's easy to let a lot of things become "idols" even if they aren't known by the actual name "idol." For instance, I could let my children become idols if I love them more than I love God. I could let my blog become an idol if I let it become my sole purpose for living, as opposed to living out God's purpose in my life. So, I think if we let it, yes, it could become sinful and wrong. The question we should ask ourselves is, "Am I going to suffer or die if I do not see the show?" If the question is "yes," then we might want to search our hearts before God. Just my thoughts.:)

Testing, because I left a comment but not sure it went through.

Ok, I'll post this again, because I don't think my comment went through. Feel free to delete this if it did. I think that the show "American Idol" could become our "idol" if we allow it to become so. But really, anything in our lives can become "idols" if we allow them to. For instance, our children can become our "idols" if we love them more than we love God. Our blogs could become "idols" if we live solely for blogging, as opposed to living out God's purpose in our lives. The question is, can we live without American Idol, or will missing it just kill us inside and cause us pain and suffering? If the answer to the latter part of that question is "yes," then we need to search out our hearts before God, because then it may have become sin for us. Just my thoughts.:)

I think the tv period can become an idol...So there has to be enough self control through the empowering of the Holy Spirit to turn the tv off and dedicate as much time to the scriptures... just my opinion..I'm often guilty of commiting the same sin of dedicating more time to the tv than to the scriptures..I have my seasons...:)
Cool blog looking forward to you visiting my blog and possibly becoming a follower as I will start to follow this blog too.
